Done with the Declutter List

Declutter Day 4: "Take inventory of your pantry. Make a list of things you need and try to get rid of things you don't use."

I have to admit that when I saw this list and decided to try to follow it, I only read ahead on a few of the days. Today, it was the pantry. Again, this is something that I usually have pretty organized or at least have a really good idea of what's in there. Or what's not. So, it didn't really take me too long to do this one and only tossed a couple expired items. Mostly though, I just relocated some remedies that had been thrown in there the last time we were using them regularly.

I ended up reading ahead to the next week or so of decluttering and realized that this list isn't the decluttering help I need. I'm actually pretty good at keeping up with a lot of the things it's asking me to spend time on. Like going through clothing and donating what I no longer wear. Getting rid of coffee mugs and other dishes we don't use. Unsubscribing to emails. I stopped when I got to VHS tapes. Seriously- who still has THOSE hanging around anymore?!? We don't even have DVDs anymore. Although we DO have a pretty large collection of music CDs that we've backed up digitally, but still won't toss the actually CDs- even though we don't have a stereo CD player to listen to them with.

The decluttering I need to do seems to be a lot bigger than these tasks. I need to put hundreds of photos in photo albums. I need to create things with all the craft supplies I've been collecting and trying to keep organized. I need to place items in the makeup vanity that I completed refinishing after nearly 2 years of it sitting in storage. I need to get bookshelves so that I can unpack my books and decorations that have been living in boxes since we moved here almost 6 years ago. I need to go through some of the other boxes of random things that are being stored but I'm not sure why. You know, stuff like that. But all those things require big chunks of time, which is the hard part for me.

I hope this list has helped someone else out there who needed it. But, for me, I'll be tossing it aside and working on other things. I'll let you know what those things are- when I find time to do them.
